Another event I attended at BlogHer 12 was the Hallmark Holiday Preview Suite where we learned about the products Hallmark has for the upcoming fall holiday season. I’ll share these with you next month because I just can’t talk about holiday decorations when it’s 100 degrees outside. 
What I do want to tell you about is the unique, fun product in the goody bag for attending: Text Bands. The wristbands allow kids to transmit short messages to each other by touching hands with another person wearing a text band. They can bump fists, high five or just shake.
The bands light up and the message transfers from band to band. Importantly, a bad-word filter is built into the Text Band to help keep the messages positive. Text Bands hold up to 24 messages at a time and once full, the oldest message is replaced by the newest message. I think it’s a great solution for kids who want to text (everybody’s doing it) but are maybe a little too young for standard text devices.
The starter kits come with purple or charcoal bands with a text module. To show individual style, kids can choose from eight style bands including Disney and Star Wars themed bands.
Kids shouldn’t get bored because there are lots of ways to keep it interesting once they’ve mastered swapping messages directly to each other. They can make up games or try some of the games detailed at the Text Bands site.
The suggested retail price of the bands is $14.99 per starter kit and just $4.99 for a style band. You can get them at Hallmark Gold Crown stores. To find the nearest one use the store locator.
